Life Coaching
Life Coaching is a
practice with the stated aim of helping clients determine and achieve
personal goals. The Coach uses NLP along with other psychological tools
in the process of setting and accomplishing goals. It is different
to that of therapy in that it deals primarily with the future and the
realising of targets.
Its
roots are in executive coaching, which draws on techniques developed
in management consulting and leadership training.
The term Life Coach is perhaps best
identified with Anthony Robbins, the billionaire guru of motivational
seminars, books, CDs and DVDs. As a teenager in the 1970s, Robbins
became very successful in business and was nicknamed “Wonderboy” by
the press for his entrepreneurial skills, before he fell on hard times
after unconsciously sabotaging his once thriving businesses.
With tenacity and a sheer desire to
better himself and achieve more in all areas of his life, he studied
NLP when it was in its infancy, after pleading to be let into the class
where it was being taught (by cofounder John Grinder). With this newfound
knowledge he soon made many personal discoveries and transformations,
which resulted in him becoming an incredibly successful businessman,
international bestselling author and leading “Personal Performance
Coach”, running seminars all over the USA. All of this was achieved
by the late 1980s and still whilst only in his late twenties.

Today in his late forties he is still
perhaps the most well known Life Coach there is, and has appeared as
himself in the comedy film Shallow Hal and is regularly seen on “infomercials” that
are broadcast on satellite and cable channels promoting products such
as “Get The Edge!” and “Personal Power”.
Not only am I qualified as a Life Coach
through the clinic where I trained, but I have also been an avid student
of Anthony Robbins for many years, having listened to hundreds
of hours of his material, be it in CD, tape or DVD format. I
have also read many of his best-selling books and have taken part in
several of his seminars, including “Unleash The Power
Within”, a
four day experience at the Excel Centre in London, which involves a
barefoot firewalk!
The principles of Life Coaching
have been key in the recovery of my health and happiness, and in
so many areas of my life where I once thought certain “unattainable” goals
were out of my reach.
